Weather forecasts and synoptic charts. Now a days there is less guess work for the mountaineer as to what weather they are likely to encounter when venturing into the mountains. The number of times that I've totally ignored what the weather forecast is like before driving up to the Isle of Skye is too many to count. Sometimes I've arrived and wished that I'd looked before setting off, maybe I would have waited for another weekend...
